Gavin's Primary Talk with Intermission :)

Did you even know you can have an intermission with a short primary talk? Gavin gave a talk last Sunday in Primary. His topic was about how we can be with our family forever because of the resurrection.

Gavin was reading his own talk - but I was standing next to him to hold up the pictures. Shortly after starting his talk, he whispers, "I have to go to the bathroom!" I was a little mortified so I told him to just wait and finish his talk. He kept going for another paragraph or two. Just as he was starting to talk about his uncle Erik that passed away, he told me he just couldn't wait any longer. He was also moving a lot so I knew he probably couldn't wait. I told him to just go ahead and go then. He stepped down from the podium and walked straight out the door as I mouthed to the Primary President that he had to go to the bathroom.

Mike was in the room but he didn't understand what was going on. He later told me he thought Gavin was getting emotional talking about his uncle and he just couldn't finish. Mike said he was getting a little choked up thinking about that....yeah, that would have been a much more tender moment - and less embarrassing - than having to use the bathroom!

The Primary President was really sweet about it and excused Gavin for a minute and then invited the member of our bishopric to go ahead and come up and introduce the theme for the month. I went ahead and sat back down at the piano. While he was talking, Gavin walked back into the room. He looked at me with this "What the heck" look and I could tell he was mad. Did he expect me to stand up front and for the whole primary to just wait for him to finish in the bathroom? I mouthed to him to just sit down. When the counselor was finished, Gavin looked at me and at the Primary President. He wanted to finish his talk. She told him to come on up and finish it. He wasn't even bothered by it all. I was embarrassed. He just picked up where he left off and finished his talk. He did do a good job - but it was a parenting moment I had never experienced before!

I later asked Gavin why he didn't go to the bathroom before Primary started and he said he didn't have to go then....of course! I guess when you are a kid and when you have to go, you really HAVE TO GO!
