The Town Parade

On Saturday, Aug 2nd, our town celebrated its Heritage Days. They always have a cute parade and it goes right in front of our house....pretty handy! The kids always get a ton of candy so they think it is great. We love it because we just step out to our curb and watch it and don't have to fight parking or crowds! :) I had been anticipating the parade for days before. However, I think we had been having so much fun with my mom, that I forgot about it. Saturday morning I woke up to police sirens. At first I freaked out because I knew they were right in front of our house. Then, I realized the parade was starting! I jumped up and started waking up the kids and telling them the parade was starting. Gavin was wondering if he had time to get dressed. I just laughed. The parade isn't that big! Gavin and Alyssa ran out in their pajamas so they wouldn't miss the whole thing. I then started hunting down shoes and throwing them out to them on the lawn so they could run out and get their candy. Rylan woke up during all of the commotion so I took him out to watch the parade on our steps. Mike was a great dad and stayed with Gavin and Alyssa on the curb helping them get their candy and wave to all of the parade entries. Our primary had a float as well so it was fun to see them. Since I had spaced the parade that morning, my kids missed out riding on the float, but at least they got candy! It was funny watching Gavin and Alyssa watch the parade and get candy in their pajamas. Someone from one of the parade cars even yelled, "Hey pajama boy...get some clothes on!" (I think it was someone we knew - I just couldn't tell from where I was.) It was hilarious! That night, we also got to sit on our front porch and watch the fireworks. We were spoiled....a parade and fireworks all without leaving the driveway!
