It's GREAT to have a Handy Husband!

The brakes in our van have needed to be done for quite some time. We are headed to Park City this weekend for some fun and Mike decided he better replace the brake rotors and pads before we head over the mountains. Last week he did some research and found a good place online to order the parts from and saved us some money that way. Tonight, he finished the project. It was awesome. The brakes on the van are different than the brakes on our previous Honda or our Audi wagon so I was a little nervous about Mike doing them (I always worry about stuff like that - it makes me REALLY anxious to think our safety is dependent on this!) However, Mike knew what he was doing. We had several errands to run tonight after he got home from work so he got a really late start on the project. The first side took the longest - of course. He had to run to Lowes for a part to help get the bolts off. He also had a hard time getting the brake pads to fit in the stupid clips. Once I got all of the kids in bed, it was probably 10:30 and I was able to finally help him. The poor guy - he was in the garage working on these stupid brakes and he hardly had any lighting. I really need to get him a good trouble light. He was holding a stupid wind-up flashlight and trying to juggle all the parts of the brake and the tools necessary to do the job. I tried to round up better lighting. We finally realized the light on Monty's (Mike's pet python) cage would be perfect. I then became the light holder. I think the job went smoother once he could actually see. The second side took probably 20 minutes to complete. I am just so grateful to have a handy husband. He saves us so much money by doing things himself - and he is really good at it. I get a little nervous at mechanical things being done, but that is probably because I don't understand the process involved and I am a bit of a control freak. I have come to realize that Mike needs that kind of satisfaction just like I get satisfaction from looking at something and then trying to duplicate it, make it, bake it, or create it. Way to go, Mike!!!! Now I just need to think of the next project I need him to work on! :)
