I talked to the doctor this afternoon. He still has not heard back from Primary Children's so he doesn't know their take on the EKG from Monday. He kind of gave me the impression that working with Primary Children's can be a little frustrating at times! However, he thinks it is best if we have another EKG done and we will do that tomorrow.
Obviously, we are hoping Monday's abnormal EKG was a fluke. I do think another EKG is a good idea. We will do the EKG in the morning and the cardiologist said to call him by 3pm and he should have read it by then. If this second EKG gives similar abnormal readings to Monday's EKG, then we will probably have another echocardiogram. I am hoping we won't have to do that. Even when we were talking to the doctor yesterday about the VSD and ASD he didn't think an echocardiogram was necessary and didn't want to put her through sedation and stuff for the "small amount of information we can gain from it". He just thought we could wait on an echo until she was five. Of course - that was all when we were discussing the heart murmur situation and before we learned about the abnormal EKG.
This afternoon he also told me his office will be working on getting us an appointment with the Doctor he consulted with yesterday from Primary Children's. He said she does outreach clinics and comes to Ogden one or two times a month. It could take a month or two to even be squeezed in. I asked if it would be any faster to just go to Salt Lake and he said it could take 3 months to get an appointment with them. He said this doctor works well with his office and if there are concerns with a patient and the family history, she really tries to get them in. I expressed my concerns about a long wait and what that means when my baby possibly has more heart problems and he kind of comforted me by letting me know she wasn't critical right now - but he is concerned in the change in just a few months in her EKG (it was completely normal when she was 2 months old).
Although we really don't have any answers yet, I was thankful he called me. I could tell he was genuinely concerned about us. He apologized for upsetting me yesterday and said he thought of me all day (and I really tried to keep my emotions in check while we were in his office!) He knew the news was upsetting and he said he knew I was thinking of my brother. I appreciate him being compassionate enough to call and come up with a game plan until we hear back from Primary Children's.
