The Family EKG day

Yesterday was the big day. We took all the kids and headed up to the hospital first thing in the morning so the kids and I could all have our EKGs done. Gavin was stressed about being too late for school. He kept asking what time it was (but then again, he did have a field trip that day...thankfully he made it back to school in time to go!)

The kids were all wonderful during their little tests. We were really worried about Rylan and so we had him go last. I don't know if it helped him to watch everyone else have theirs done first, but he was an angel. He sat so still. I don't know if he was intending to be that good or if he was nervous, but it was a relief! We all know Rylan usually is not the quiet, still angel! :)

Alyssa went first
Alyssa and Gavin held Cambrie's hands so she wouldn't pull wires. The technician sang "The Itsy Bitsy Spider" which captivated Cambrie and kept her still during the procedure.

Rylan shocked us all by actually cooperating!

Gavin told me I could not take pictures of him during his test. I respected his wishes! :) Mike didn't think about taking pictures of me...thank goodness!

The technician couldn't tell us anything about the results or things she saw, but Mike watched as the tests were being done. This was what he saw on the printouts:

Jamie - Normal EKG
Rylan - Normal EKG
Alyssa - Left Axis Deviation
Gavin - Left Axis Deviation
Cambrie - Possible Right Ventricular Hypertrophy

Obviously we were a little nervous to see things pop up on Gavin, Alyssa, and Cambrie's EKG. We always thought if any of our kids were to have a heart condition, it would have been Rylan since he has always been our smallest child and barely makes it on the growth charts (and weight gain can be an indication of heart problems). It was a hard afternoon waiting to hear from the doctor. While we were waiting, we were trying to educate ourselves. We tried to do research on the internet about those conditions, but that was also stressful - you can find all kinds of information about each condition - from minor complications, to "sudden death". It is always best to wait to hear from the doctor! :)
