Poor Rylan!

The other day when Rylan woke up from his nap, his eyes were matted. I had noticed they were draining a little more than usual that day; however, I didn't notice he probably had pink eye until after his nap. That boy has the longest eye lashes and so that goop can really stick in them and seal his eyes. That night, he also started to cry to Mike that his ear hurt. We knew he better go to the doctor the next day. (I love it when my kids get to the stage where they can actually tell me what hurts!)

The next morning, Rylan woke up like this:

We started cleaning his eyes with a washcloth, but in the end, literally had to pick the stuff out with our fingers (thanks, Mike!). When Mike took him to the doctor, we found out he has double ear infections. One is really bad and the other is just starting. The doctor said he also didn't have full blown pink eye yet. He said his eye ducts were really plugged (no kidding!) but he didn't doubt it could turn into pink eye so he prescribed drops for them.

When I was giving Rylan his antibiotics this morning he was really excited. Alyssa was jealous and said in a dramatic, defeated voice, "I wish I had goopy eyes!" I told her this medicine was for his ear infections and those were really painful. When I pulled out the eye drops, she no longer wished for the "goopy eyes". My kids HATE eye drops!

Here's to hoping for better hand washing from the kids so this doesn't spread. :) Last year when we had this, it quickly spread through all of the kids - and even Mike!

Sick kids are no fun!
