DISCLAIMER = This is Mike. Jamie typically is the author of our blog posts, but I will start to add my two cents every now and then.
Friday Morning, Gavin and I went to his school around 7:30 for the annual Dad's & Donuts activity. They invite the dad's of the kids to come down to the cafeteria, read with their kids, and enjoy some light refreshments (Donuts and milk or juice).
It was fun, however - Gavin and I arrived at 7:35 to a cafeteria full of dads, kids, and a handful of anxious PTA ladies... with no donuts. So we sat down, and Gavin started to read. About 7:55, after Gavin had finished reading 2 entire chapters, the donuts arrived and nearly everyone stood up to quickly form a line. I told Gavin "Let's just keep reading, the line will be shorter in a while". Well, after 5 or 10 minutes the line had doubled in size, stretching the entire inner perimeter of the cafeteria. So, we decided to hop in line while the line was huge - oh well. The line was thankfully moving fast, and we were about to the table when one of the PTA ladies approached our section of the line and stated the following: "Hey guys, I'm the donut police." And then she approached me, stating to me only "Let's just take one donut, so everyone can get one, OK?"
Now, I can understand why she would say this, but to single me out of everybody is just plain funny. I was by far the smallest Dad of our section of line (even though I am a tad on the chubby side), yet apparently I was the greatest imminent threat to the donut population. When Gavin and I got to the table, I nervously picked out my single glazed donut while eyeing the 4 or 5 un-opened boxes (roughly 300-400 donuts). I kind of smirked at the PTA lady, and then got my juice and sat down.
I found the whole event ironic, since the later said that people could come up and have more donuts since they apparently had ordered way too many. Figures.
