Mike's Birthday

We celebrated Mike's birthday the other day. He only had to work a half day on his birthday, so we were thinking of going to the zoo; however, we realized the zoo gates closed at 4 and with Gavin in school, that just wasn't going to work. Instead, we had a boring birthday and just ran errands and shopped together. Really, Mike and I don't think birthdays for us are that big of deal - we just enjoy spending time with the family.

It was Joni's birthday that day too. Peter and Joni called us that afternoon and asked if they could drop by. They surprised us by coming by and showing off Joni's birthday present....a HUGE dog. They just adopted a Leonberger Mastiff in Salt Lake. The kids had never seen such a big dog before. Alyssa was a little scared. It really was like having a horse in our house :) We took pictures of the kids with the dog. It was fun.

Mike wanted a salad spinner for his birthday.....seriously, he did! Gavin was irritated and thought that was the "most dumbest present ever". We have been on a little salad kick lately. We hate soggy lettuce and the time it takes to dry the leaves - so Mike thought a salad spinner would be a good splurge for his birthday. We went to Bed Bath and Beyond and he picked out a salad spinner that night. We then went to Costco...did some shopping and ended up having the "hotdog special" for dinner. Gag - I know - but the kids wanted it. We also went to the optical store to have Gavin's glasses adjusted and to Wal Mart to do some shopping. What a boring birthday, huh?!

We got home late (especially for a school night) so I quickly finished assembling his birthday cake, we sang Happy Birthday, the kids helped blow out the candles (we had to do it twice...Rylan blew them out the first time before we were even ready!), we ate, and put the kids in bed! We then tried to stay up and watch a movie we rented - "Traitor" - but I fell asleep on the couch (nothing new). Poor Mike, he finished his exciting birthday by watching a movie alone. :)

Happy Birthday Mike! I really like your background on the blog, way cute. And that dog was huge, I think I would be afraid of that thing.
